Our Mission

At Protea Pelvic Floor Clinic, we are dedicated to female pelvic floor health. The pelvic floor is one of the body’s most interesting organ structures but unfortunately, also one of the least understood and most neglected. Outside of healthcare circles, the pelvic floor is virtually unknown. However, the pelvic floor plays a vitally important role in the human body’s most intimate and reproductive functions which is a crucial factor in women’s health and happiness.

Unfortunately, the female pelvic floor is vulnerable to the development of numerous disorders, which can seriously affect the quality of life. The main reasons for this are the specifics of female anatomy, aging, and vaginal childbirth.

As a urogynecologist, I see women on a daily basis with pelvic floor disorders. Some of these include urinary and fecal incontinence, bladder, bowel or uterine prolapse, painful intercourse, and chronic pelvic pain. My gynecological practice is one hundred percent focused on the pelvic floor. In the last few years, with increasing investment and personal interest in the incredible power of laser technologies and platelet rich plasma (PRP), I have not only brought these technologies into my pelvic floor practice, but have also incrementally built up a cosmetic practice too. This was a natural step which developed with my growing realization of the utility and efficacy of these technologies. I am currently focussing on a number of cosmetic offerings with best in class technology and highly skilled, experienced staff to assess, guide and offer the most effective options for your cosmetic needs.

In my practice I strive to provide the best clinical and technological investigative and therapeutic tools available. Most patients usually have difficulty understanding what is happening, how and why it happened, and what treatment options are available.

Through my years of practice, I have become acutely aware of the need to educate women about the importance of pelvic floor health. I’ve realized that outside of medical circles, there is a very low level of awareness regarding the pelvic floor. As a result, I have made it my mission to educate as many women as possible about their pelvic floor health.

I have co-authored two books, both published by Prometheus Books of New York, explaining the pelvic floor and the causes of its disorders in detail. These books are meant to equip women with the knowledge and ability to understand their bodies better and will enable them to ask their health care providers questions regarding proposed or possible procedures and interventions that may be required. In the case of childbirth, women are encouraged to become involved in all medical decisions and I believe that women should be given the full scope of information about how childbirth can impact their pelvic health.
However, the books are about more than just childbirth. They would be of equal value to women who already suffer from pelvic floor problems like incontinence, prolapse (sagging pelvic organs), or pelvic pain. These problems are discussed and illustrated in detail, and the treatment options are discussed thoroughly.

For a long time I’ve been irritated by consumer healthcare books and publications that seem to dismiss the reader’s intelligence. In our books, my co-authors and I strive to equip women with information and courage to make decisions about their body; how they will bring their children into this world, as well as what treatment to demand and expect for pelvic floor disorders. There is no attempt to “minimize” the problems as I so commonly observe in other books. The facts are given as they are, even if sometimes scary.

I sincerely hope that through my books, and through my practice, especially with my continued search for better and less invasive but still effective treatment options, I will be able to make a significant impact on the women who put their trust in me as physician, and whom I am privileged to call my patients.

With respect,

Dr. Magnus Murphy MD
