Posterior Tibial Nerve Stimulation

Posterior

This minimally invasive neuromodulation treatment is offered by  Dr. Murphy to treat overactive bladder syndrome and associated symptoms such as urinary urgency, urinary frequency and urge incontinence. A very small needle is inserted beneath the skin above the ankle (similar to acupuncture) and is attached to a handheld pulse generator unit that electrically stimulates the posterior tibial nerve. This mild electrical current sends signals back to nerves controlling the bladder and pelvic floor muscles. This treatment has been scientifically proven to be just as effective as medication therapy for overactive bladder problems, without the side effects of medication.
