Since Tish has been a real asset to pelvicFloor.com over the years, her idea of a "sticky note" was developed into giving her her own "corner"!
Tish has an amazing ability to do what this website was designed for: bringing people together, reassuring those with concerns and questions and to develop a feeling of community. I hope this introduction of "Tish's Corner" will allow Tish to do what she does best, even better.
~ M. Murphy
Thanks Dr. M! Many of you already have met me. For the others I would like to introduce myself. I am an ordinary woman, nothing more. Central California is where I live. About 17 miles from the ocean. I am going to be 46 this year. I have been married for almost 24 years. I have two children, young men 28 and 23. I also have two granddaughters. I currently work in the retail world.
I, like you, have an interest in pelvic floor disorders. I have suffered from prolapse related issues for many years. I live with it everyday of my life. I have experienced surgery, recovery and the trails and tribulations that go along with them. What I didn't have, was boards like this, Doctors. like Dr. Murphy and women like yourselves to talk to.
My first thing to say to all of you: Welcome,I am glad you found us. I am sorry you have need of us.
Know as you look around this site that you have our support and most of the time your questions or concerns will be answered somewhere on the web site or the discussion board. Before jumping into the forum and asking all those questions you having been saving up, or couldn't find a place to ask them........I can assure you the answer is here somewhere, if by some chance its not, we will find one.
Please take a look around, Dr. Murphy has put a huge amount of time into the education areas of this website. Start there. He has lots of interesting presentations. Just by looking around the site you will have tons of information. You will be surprised at how many questions you get answered by jumping around the website and checking it out. If that doesn’t give you what you need … ask.
You will get answers from women who have exactly the same thing, women who have suggestions about how to deal with certain issues and what their experiences may have been. What you won't get is a medical plan from Dr. Murphy. Do know that he monitors the board and makes sure that the information we need is here. If he sees a misdirected answer he will chime in.
Prolapse, incontinence, bowel issues are not a "normal part of aging", nor a "price you pay for having children". It is not entirely a woman’s issue for that matter. Yes, men do get prolapse, its just not as common or maybe just not talked about as much.
Through this board and the women and men who participate we can calm fears, educate, and give support to those who have dealings in some way with Prolapse issues.
Take care all,
Tish
